Wine History Tours FAQ’s
Do you have questions? We’re happy to answer them. If you can’t find your question below, send us a message using our contact form and we’ll get right back to you.
Q: What days and times do tours run?
A: We run private tours year-round, usually starting mid-morning and finishing in the late afternoon. Days are booked by reservation — check availability or reach out and we’ll find a date that works for you.
Q: What tours do you offer?
A: Every private Willamette Valley wine tour is customized, and we build the day around a focus you choose: The Best of Everything (history, views, wine, and people of the Willamette Valley); Willamette Valley Early History (the oldest vineyards, wineries, and deepest stories); Newer History & Developments (the modern evolution of the valley and the cult figures behind it); Winemaking Diversity & Equity (the women and minorities re-writing the valley’s story); and AVA-Specific days that trace several of the valley’s distinct appellations. Tell us what intrigues you and we’ll shape the rest.
Q: What’s included, and what does it cost?
A: Private tours start at $298 per guest, with the per-person rate decreasing as your group grows. The day includes private transportation, a knowledgeable local guide, water, and the history that ties each glass to a larger story. We visit three wineries at a relaxed pace (up to four by request, at a quicker pace), and we time the day so you land at one of the Willamette Valley’s cult-favorite sandwich spots for lunch. Winery tasting fees are separate unless you choose a tasting-fees-included tour.
Q: Who will our guide be?
A: Your guide is one of our team of industry insiders — hospitality professionals, educators, and storytellers, each with a decade or more in Willamette Valley wine. Founder Ken Wytsma and the team share a deep love of the valley and the history behind its wines. Meet the team.
Q: What time of year do you offer tours?
A: All year. Each season offers something different — see our guide to the best time to visit Willamette Valley wineries.
Q: I saw a tour that isn’t on the booking calendar — is it still available?
A: It may simply be booked up for that day, but reach out by call or email and we’ll see what we can do.
Q: What happens if it rains?
A: The day goes on — we simply adapt, moving tastings indoors, into the cellar, or beside the fire. We recommend dressing for the weather: layers, comfortable shoes, and a jacket.
Q: What else can we do during our visit?
A: The Willamette Valley is rich beyond the wineries — cycling, kayaking, hiking, waterfalls, wildflowers, and brilliant fall color, plus excellent small-town dining and shopping. We’re glad to suggest an itinerary.
Q: How can I contact you?
A: Use the contact form on our site, or call or email us directly — we’d love to help plan your day.
